Every few years, motorcycle riders prefer to switch things up. When the time comes to buy something new, some choose to upgrade, while others choose to downgrade, and still others completely alter their lifestyle and purchase a completely different item. It was now my personal responsibility to select what I wanted because this moment had come. I took the same course that many people before me had, considering my financial situation, the component of motorcycling that I wanted to pursue, and my way of life. Now that I’m doing what I do for a job, I got the chance to ride a variety of machines to determine which would be best for me. For comfort concerns, superbikes were out of the question, but I still adore their design. A large, cumbersome cruiser would not be appropriate for the type of riding I had in mind, which required a pillion and rather long journeys. Although my pillion doesn’t particularly enjoy being constantly dirty, I liked the riding posture of an adventure bike, so that option was also out. I then rode a Suzuki GSX S1000 and thought I had discovered the perfect naked supersport. Perfect! 1000cc or more, sports styling, an upright riding position, light handling, and a rather comfortable pillion position.

The moment the GSX S1000 in GT mode arrived into my driveway and ruined everything, I had found the bike to buy and was ready to sign on the dotted line. What a fantastic piece of equipment; if there was ever a bike that fit me precisely, this was it. I won’t go on and on about the GT, but suffice it to say that it met all of my requirements for a bike.

Design

Although the GT initially appears to be a sportbike, closer examination reveals subtle distinctions, The mid-mounted foot controls, the rubber-mounted handlebars, and the mid-height screen with its modest upward swoop. The GT changes into a true sports tourer right before your eyes once the colored panniers are added. The motorbike is dressed in Metallic Reflective Blue and has a big 19-liter gasoline tank with a convenient knee cutout. The GT has front and rear intelligent LED lighting, as well as rather comfortable rider and pillion seating. The panniers provided a ton of packing room, but they just barely missed fitting an adventure-style helmet. Nevertheless, they will very easily hold the weekend stuff for two adults.

Technology

With a ton of modern technology, the GT is one of Suzuki’s most sophisticated motorcycles. Your new dashboard has a new 6.5″ color TFT display that is front and center and has smartphone connectivity. For any gadget that requires power, a USB charging port is also available. Suzuki Traction Control System (STCS) and Suzuki Ride Mode Selection (SDMS) have joined previously popular features like Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (SIRS) with its ride-by-wire throttle, allowing riders to totally customize their riding experience. Suzuki’s one-touch start, low RPM Assist, and the incredibly useful Cruise control capability are all included.

In addition, Suzuki graciously installed aftermarket heated grips, which were a great addition during the chilly winter rides. However, the mechanism did seem a bit haphazard and only had two settings: roasting hands or off.

Performance

The 999cc K5 engine, which has been updated and is now compliant with Euro 5 standards, is what powers the GT. It has a 6-speed transmission with a wonderful multi-directional rapid shifter that is incredibly smooth, and it produces 115kW and 102Nm. The GT has a superb ride that is aggressive in the turns but doesn’t jar your bones on long open stretches thanks to dampened KYB suspension front and rear. The aforementioned rider assistance systems provide an excellent riding experience that is difficult to match.

Let’s ride

Although the GT weighs 226kg, it is significantly lighter than other sport-tourers, and the difference is noticeable in the chassis. When asked to change directions fast, the GT is no slouch and will do it with little assistance from the rider. Even when driving two up, the GT quickly reaches highway speeds and beyond and then calmly cruises along at those speeds. Even when riding upright, the rider and pillion are well protected from the wind since air is directed around them in an organized manner. When the turns come and you must attack a curved road, that is when the real test occurs. The rider assistance systems on the GT proved to be very effective at keeping the bike under control even with the added weight.

Cons and Pros

  • A relaxed riding position
  • An ideal mid-height screen blocks wind
  • excellent technology
  • patterned panniers
  • outstanding shifter
  • Delivering linear power smoothly
  • When riding, mirrors are a little out of reach.

Verdict After a particularly exhausting day of riding, my pillion and I sat down and spoke about the advantages and disadvantages, and yes, we both felt confident that this would be our next vehicle. The emotion you get when you finally get what you’re looking for is tough to put into words. I can’t suggest the GSX S1000 GT enough if you find yourself in a similar situation. It is almost flawless at all it is intended to do and offers fantastic value on top of that. The GT should be on your to-ride list if you enjoy road trips with your special someone and sports touring is your thing.
